A wedding used to be a once-in-a-lifetime event, but times have changed and some people may end up celebrating two or more of them throughout their lifetime. But it doesn’t matter how many times you get married, it’s still regarded as a very special occasion and one that’s needs to be photographed, so that the memories can be cherished forever.
Many newlyweds hire professional wedding photographers to shoot their weddings and you can always count on friends and relatives to show up with their cameras as well. By the time the special day’s finished you should have hundreds of photos to choose from. Also, many couples hand out disposable digital cameras at the wedding reception for guests to snap more natural photos.
There are several different ways to photograph a wedding. You can do it in a creative, photojournalistic, impressionistic or illustrative manner. But if you’re hiring a professional photographer you’ll need to decide what you prefer beforehand. Many people prefer natural wedding photography, which basically means the shots are unpretentious and honest, and are true mementos of what took place on the day.
If you’re hiring a photographer, it’s a good idea to meet with him or her to make sure you’re all on the same page. This way you shouldn’t be in for any unpleasant surprises when you review the photos. It’s important the photographer understands what you’re expecting to see at the end of the day. You can also suggest some locations you may like to use as well as any specific poses, if any. Remember that the smaller the venues or locations are the more intimate the photos will be.
You’ll also want some shots of the wedding party as well as your family and friends. You can always get some candid shots at the reception later on when everybody lets their hair down. It’s a good idea to try and have their emotions and expressions captured. This is the time when people tend to have fun, enjoy themselves and act naturally. It’s a good idea to make sure nobody deletes any of the photos until you have viewed them because there maybe something special about certain photos that others can’t see.
While the actual wedding is the main focus of your photos, you should also try and capture the special moments leading up to it. You can take shots of the preparations, the build up, and all of the little things that make the day so special. Have plenty of photos taken and take advantage of the technology of digital cameras. It’s not like the old days of film photography where all shots had to be paid for and developed.
Natural photography will offer you a collage of photos of how people actually reacted to your special day and how the event really took place. You won’t see a series of posed shots that have an artificial look to them. You’ll have an intimate reminder of your wedding day with your family and closest friends.
